Creating a More Humane Community
The Humane Society of Independence County is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to helping animals in our county. We rescue stray and injured animals, provide temporary care for homeless animals through foster homes and our shelter facility, and adopt homeless animals to permanent homes.
Our Vision
A community where every animal is valued, protected, and loved. Where no pet is homeless, and every family has the opportunity to experience the joy of pet companionship.

We are a no-kill shelter.
We are not affiliated with any other organization or governmental agency.
We are dependent on donations, membership dues, fundraising, grants, and Fleaman Barkus income.
We receive no governmental funding.
